Becoming Licensed
To qualify for a Michigan real estate salesperson license, an applicant must be at least 18 years old, complete 40 clock hours of approved prelicensure real estate education, apply through LARA, and pass the licensing examination. The applicant must then be sponsored by a licensed employing broker for the license to become active.
Renewal and Continuing Education
Michigan real estate licenses are issued on a three-year cycle. To renew, licensees must complete continuing education, including required legal-update content, and pay the renewal fee. Keeping education current ensures licensees stay informed about changes in law and practice. Failing to renew on time can require reinstatement steps before the license is active again.
