Nebraska Licensing Requirements and Education
Nebraska sets pre-license education, examination, employment, and continuing-education requirements for salespersons. This chapter summarizes the path to and maintenance of a Nebraska license.
Pre-License Education and Exam
An applicant for a Nebraska salesperson license must complete the Commission-approved pre-license education, including coursework in real estate principles and practice and in Nebraska license law, before taking the licensing examination. The candidate must pass the examination, which covers both national and Nebraska-specific content, and meet the Act's eligibility requirements.
Employment by a Broker
A newly licensed salesperson's license becomes active only when the salesperson is employed by and placed under a licensed broker; the license is inactive until affiliated. When a salesperson leaves a broker, the salesperson may not perform brokerage activity until re-affiliated with another broker. The employing broker supervises the salesperson's work.
Renewal and Continuing Education
Nebraska licenses renew on a set cycle, and licensees must complete Commission-approved continuing education before renewing. Continuing education keeps licensees current on law and practice. Letting a license lapse can require additional steps before the licensee may practice again.
