Pre-License Education and Exam
An applicant for a New Mexico associate broker license must complete the Commission-approved pre-license education before taking the licensing examination. The candidate must pass the examination, which covers both national and New Mexico-specific content, and meet the other eligibility requirements, including any background-check requirement, set by the Commission.
Supervision by a Qualifying Broker
A New Mexico associate broker may perform brokerage activity only while associated with and supervised by a qualifying broker; the license is inactive for practice until the associate broker is placed under a qualifying broker. When an associate broker leaves a firm, the associate broker may not perform brokerage activity until associating with another qualifying broker.
Renewal and Continuing Education
New Mexico licenses renew on a set cycle, and brokers must complete Commission-approved continuing education, including any required core courses, before renewing. Continuing education keeps brokers current on New Mexico law and practice. Allowing a license to lapse can require additional steps before the broker may practice again.
