Nevada Licensing Requirements and Education

Nevada sets pre-license education, examination, association-with-a-broker, and continuing-education requirements for salespersons. This chapter summarizes the path to and maintenance of a Nevada license.

Pre-License Education and Exam

An applicant for a Nevada salesperson license must complete the Division-approved pre-license education, including required real estate principles and Nevada real estate law coursework, before taking the licensing examination. The candidate must pass the examination, which covers both national and Nevada-specific content, and meet the other eligibility requirements set by the Division.

Association With a Broker

A Nevada salesperson license authorizes activity only while the salesperson is associated with a licensed broker; the license is not active for practice until the salesperson is placed under a broker. When a salesperson leaves a broker, the salesperson may not perform brokerage activity until associating with another broker. The broker supervises the salesperson's work.

Renewal and Continuing Education

Nevada licenses renew on a set cycle, and licensees must complete Division-approved continuing education, including any required core topics, before renewing. Continuing education keeps licensees current on Nevada law and practice. Allowing a license to lapse can require additional steps before the licensee may practice again.
