Chapter 15 of 1515% of exam

Oregon Licensing Requirements and Renewal

This chapter summarizes how a person becomes and stays licensed in Oregon: pre-license education, examination and background requirements, and ongoing continuing education administered by the Oregon Real Estate Agency.

Pre-License Education and Examination

An Oregon broker applicant must complete 150 clock hours of Agency-approved real estate pre-license education before taking the licensing examination. After passing the exam, the applicant must submit a license application and clear a background check before the license is issued and associated with a principal broker.

Continuing Education and Renewal

Oregon licenses are renewed on a periodic cycle, and licensees must complete Agency-approved continuing education to renew an active license. Continuing education keeps licensees current on law changes, agency duties, and ethical practice. Failure to complete required education or to renew on time affects the licensee's ability to practice.
