Chapter 15 of 1515% of exam

State Licensing Requirements (Virginia)

This topic covers Virginia's education, examination, and renewal requirements, including the post-license education for new salespersons.

Prelicensing and Examination

To become a Virginia salesperson, an applicant must be at least 18, complete 60 hours of approved prelicensing education, pass the licensing examination, and meet character and background requirements. The license becomes active once the salesperson is affiliated with a supervising broker who sponsors the applicant.

Post-License and Continuing Education

Virginia requires newly licensed salespersons to complete post-license education (30 hours) during their first year, covering practical topics such as contracts, agency, and fair housing. After that, licensees complete continuing education at each renewal (Virginia renews on a two-year cycle). Staying current keeps licensees informed of legal and market changes.
