Vermont Licensing Requirements and Education
Vermont sets pre-license education, examination, affiliation, and continuing-education requirements for salespersons. This chapter summarizes the path to and maintenance of a Vermont salesperson license.
Pre-License Education and Exam
An applicant for a Vermont salesperson license must complete the required 40-hour pre-license course from an approved provider before taking the licensing examination. The candidate must pass the exam, which covers national and Vermont-specific content, and meet the Commission's eligibility requirements.
Affiliation with a Broker
A salesperson license becomes active only when the salesperson is affiliated with a Vermont broker who supervises the salesperson's activity. Without an active affiliated broker, the salesperson may not conduct brokerage. Changing brokers requires updating the affiliation with the Commission.
Continuing Education and Renewal
Vermont licenses renew on a set cycle, and licensees must complete Commission-approved continuing education before renewing. Continuing education keeps licensees current on Vermont law and practice. Letting a license lapse can require additional steps before the licensee may resume practice.
