Alcohol & Penalties

Drink driving and distraction carry serious penalties in Singapore.

Drink driving

The legal limit is 35 microgrammes of alcohol per 100 ml of breath (80 mg per 100 ml of blood). Exceeding it can bring a fine, imprisonment and disqualification.

Demerit points

Under the driver improvement system, offences add demerit points; a probationary driver who reaches the threshold has the licence revoked and must re-qualify.

Distraction

Using a hand-held mobile phone while driving is an offence carrying a fine and demerit points. Keep your attention on the road.
