Give-Way Rules

Traffic keeps left; clear rules and defensive observation keep intersections safe.

Intersections

At a four-way stop, the first vehicle to stop goes first; if two stop together the driver yields to the vehicle on the right. At a YIELD sign, give way to traffic with right of way.

Turning and keeping left

When turning right, give way to oncoming traffic going straight or turning left. Keep to the left and overtake on the right only when it is safe.

K53 observation

Before moving off, changing lanes or turning, check your mirrors and blind spots and signal your intention. Defensive observation is central to the K53 method.
