Signs & Signals
South African road signs use standard shapes and colours you can learn to read at a glance.
Control signs
STOP is a red octagon needing a full stop; YIELD is a red inverted triangle needing you to give way. Both control who moves at a junction.
Regulatory and prohibition signs
Round red-bordered signs give orders; a red diagonal line means the action is prohibited, such as no overtaking or no entry.
Warning signs
Triangular red-bordered signs warn of a hazard ahead, such as a bend, crossing or narrowing road, so you can slow down early.
