Alcohol & Penalties

Alcohol, drugs and demerit points all affect your right to keep driving.

Alcohol limits

Learner and provisional drivers must record zero blood alcohol. Fully licensed drivers must stay under 0.05. Alcohol slows reactions and impairs judgement.

Demerit points

Traffic offences add demerit points to your licence; accumulating too many within the set period leads to suspension, and novice drivers reach their limit sooner.

Distraction

Learner and P1 drivers must not use a mobile phone at all while driving. Distraction is a major cause of crashes.
