Safely Sharing the Road

You share the road with cyclists, pedestrians, motorcyclists and heavy vehicles.

Following distance

Use the three-second gap to the vehicle ahead and increase it in rain, fog or on gravel. A bigger gap gives you time to react and stop.

Vulnerable road users

Leave at least 1 metre when passing a bicycle rider at 60 km/h or less, and at least 1.5 metres above 60 km/h. Watch for pedestrians near crossings and parked cars.

Learner responsibilities

As a learner you must display L plates and always drive with a fully licensed supervising driver beside you.
