Safe Driving & Sharing the Road

Keeping space and cooperating with others prevents most crashes.

Following distance

Keep at least a two-second gap behind the vehicle ahead, and increase it in rain, fog, heavy traffic, or when following motorcycles and large trucks that can hide your view.

Move Over / Slow Down

When you approach a stopped emergency, police, tow, or maintenance vehicle with flashing lights, move over one lane if you can. If you cannot move over, slow to a set amount below the posted speed limit.

Emergency vehicles and school buses

Yield to approaching emergency vehicles by pulling to the right and stopping until they pass. On an undivided road, stop for a school bus with flashing red lights and stay stopped until the lights stop.
