Alertness & Attitude
Safe driving starts with concentration, good observation and a considerate attitude toward other road users.
Observation and anticipation
Keep scanning the road far ahead and use your mirrors regularly so you can plan for hazards early. Anticipating what other road users might do lets you react smoothly rather than braking or steering suddenly.
Distraction and mobile phones
It is illegal to use a hand-held mobile phone at any time while driving, including when stopped at traffic lights or queuing in traffic. Anything that takes your eyes, hands or mind off the task increases your risk of a collision.
Patience and courtesy
A calm, patient attitude reduces conflict and risk. If another driver follows too closely, ease off gently and increase the gap to the vehicle in front rather than reacting aggressively.
