Vulnerable Road Users
Pedestrians, cyclists, motorcyclists and horse riders need extra care and space.
Cyclists and motorcyclists
When overtaking a cyclist at speeds up to 30 mph, leave at least 1.5 metres of space. Check carefully for motorcyclists at junctions, as they are easy to miss.
Pedestrians
Give way to pedestrians who are crossing, or waiting to cross, at a junction you are turning into. Take extra care near schools, bus stops and parked cars where people may step out.
Horse riders and animals
Pass horses and other animals slowly and leave plenty of room. Do not sound your horn or rev your engine, as this may frighten them.
