Give Way Rules

Australia drives on the left, and give-way rules follow that. Knowing who goes first keeps intersections safe.

Uncontrolled intersections

At a cross intersection with no signs or lights, give way to any vehicle approaching from your right. When turning right, give way to oncoming vehicles going straight or turning left. At a T-intersection the driver on the terminating road gives way to the continuing road.

Roundabouts

Slow down as you approach and give way to any vehicle already in the roundabout. Take the correct lane before entering, signal right if turning right, and signal left as you leave where practical.

Pedestrians

When you turn at an intersection you must give way to pedestrians crossing the road you are turning into. Always give way to pedestrians on marked crossings and slow down near schools and shopping strips.
