Common Construction Hazards
The high-consequence hazards found on most construction sites, including falls, electrical, underground services and mobile plant.
Falls from height
Falls are a leading cause of construction deaths. Use edge protection, guard rails, safe scaffolds and, where necessary, fall-arrest systems, and follow the hierarchy of control.
Electrical and underground services
Keep clear of overhead powerlines, use safety switches (RCDs) and tested-and-tagged equipment, and never use damaged leads. Before excavating, locate underground services using utility plans and safe digging practices.
Mobile plant and excavations
People struck by mobile plant, and trench collapses, cause serious injuries. Use exclusion zones, spotters and traffic management to separate people from plant, and shore, bench or batter excavations to prevent collapse.
