Pricing models

AWS pricing follows a few core principles and offers several purchasing options that trade commitment for lower prices. Choosing the right model can significantly reduce cost.

Pay-as-you-go
Pay only for the resources you consume, with no long-term contracts required for On-Demand usage.
Savings Plans and Reserved Instances
Commit to consistent usage over one or three years in exchange for significant discounts.
Spot Instances
Use spare capacity at deep discounts for fault-tolerant, flexible workloads that can handle interruptions.
Pay less as usage grows
Volume-based discounts and tiered pricing mean the per-unit cost can decrease as you use more.

The AWS Free Tier

The Free Tier lets new and existing customers try services at no cost within limits. It includes several offer types, and usage beyond the limits is billed at standard rates.

12-month free offers
New accounts get certain services free for 12 months up to specified limits.
Always-free offers
Some services include an always-free tier that does not expire.
Short-term trials
Certain services offer free trials that start when you activate them.
Overage is billed normally
Usage above Free Tier limits is charged at standard pay-as-you-go rates.

AWS Pricing Calculator
Estimates the cost of a proposed architecture before you deploy it.
Cost Explorer and the Cost and Usage Report
Cost Explorer visualizes historical and forecasted spend, while the CUR provides the most detailed line-item billing data.
AWS Budgets
Sets custom cost or usage thresholds and sends alerts when actual or forecasted spend exceeds them.
Cost allocation tags
Tagging resources lets you group and track costs by project, team, or environment.

Consolidated billing and Organizations

AWS Organizations lets businesses manage multiple accounts together, which simplifies billing and can lower costs through combined usage.

AWS Support plans

AWS offers tiered support plans that differ in response times, channels, and features. Higher tiers add faster responses, more Trusted Advisor checks, and dedicated guidance.

Basic Support
Included for all accounts, offering documentation, forums, and a limited set of Trusted Advisor checks.
Developer Support
Adds business-hours email access to support, suited to experimentation and early development.
Business Support
Provides 24/7 phone, chat, and email support and full Trusted Advisor checks, recommended for production workloads.
Enterprise Support
Adds a designated Technical Account Manager, concierge support, and the fastest response times.
