Simple Word Formation
Even at A2 you sometimes change a word to fit a sentence, for example making a noun from a verb or adding a common ending. This chapter covers the most frequent endings.
Common Endings
The ending -er often makes a person from a verb ('teach' → 'teacher'). The ending -ly often makes an adverb from an adjective ('quick' → 'quickly'). The ending -ful can make an adjective ('help' → 'helpful').
Plurals and Simple Nouns
Most nouns add -s for the plural, but some change ('child' → 'children', 'man' → 'men'). Choosing the correct form is a basic word-formation skill.
