Prepositions and Articles
B2 tests dependent prepositions in less obvious pairs and article use in idiomatic phrases. This chapter reviews the trickier patterns.
Less Obvious Dependent Prepositions
Pairs such as 'succeed in', 'accuse someone of', 'blame someone for', 'insist on' and 'capable of' are frequently tested. The preposition rarely translates directly from other languages.
Articles in Fixed Expressions
Some phrases use no article ('go to bed', 'at school', 'by car'), while others require 'the' ('the cinema', 'play the piano'). These are learned as set phrases.
