Chapter 2 of 522% of exam

Everyday Vocabulary

Daily conversations use common verbs, adjectives, and set expressions. This chapter looks at word choices for appointments, weather, favours, and describing people, and shows how context points to the right one. Reading the whole sentence is the key skill.

Common Verbs and Collocations

Set expressions matter: you 'book an appointment' and 'do someone a favour'. Using the wrong verb ('make a favour') sounds unnatural, so these pairings are worth learning.

Describing Weather and Prices

Adjectives carry the meaning: 'chilly' means uncomfortably cold, and 'affordable' means reasonably priced. Clues like 'bundle up' or 'a big sale' point to the intended word.

Describing People

Personality adjectives are precise: 'punctual' means arriving on time, while 'generous' means giving freely. The rest of the sentence, such as 'always arrives on time', tells you which fits.
