Disinfection standards
Reusable, non-porous implements are cleaned and then disinfected in an EPA-registered disinfectant used per label directions between clients, and stations are cleaned and disinfected as well. Meeting the disinfectant's contact time is what kills disease-causing organisms; a quick wipe is not enough.
Disposables and double-dipping
Porous single-use items such as nail files, buffers, and wooden sticks are discarded after one client because they cannot be disinfected. Wax applicators must not be re-dipped into the pot after touching skin. These single-use practices prevent cross-contamination.
Incident response and equipment
If a client bleeds, the practitioner stops, uses gloves and first aid, disinfects contaminated tools and surfaces, and disposes of contaminated disposables properly. Pedicure foot spas are drained, cleaned, and disinfected after every client to prevent bacterial infection.
