Text Completion
Text completion asks you to choose the word that best fits a sentence based on internal clues. The correct answer is determined by logic and context, not by which word simply sounds sophisticated. Each item here stands alone and requires no external passage.
Hunt for the Clue Word
Every text completion sentence contains a clue that points toward the missing word's meaning. Look for descriptive phrases and signal words such as 'although,' 'because,' and 'far from,' which tell you whether the blank continues or reverses the idea. Predict a word before looking at the choices.
Watch for Reversals
Contrast signals ('although,' 'despite,' 'far from') mean the answer opposes the surrounding idea. A phrase like 'far from disparaging' actually calls for a negative word to produce a positive overall meaning. Read the full sentence with your choice inserted to confirm it holds together.
