Rules of the Road & Right of Way

Right-of-way rules decide who proceeds first so intersections stay orderly. In Idaho you yield, keep right, and make room for emergency vehicles.

Intersections

At a four-way stop the first to arrive goes first; if two arrive together, the driver on the left yields to the driver on the right. When turning left at a green light, yield to oncoming traffic and pedestrians before you turn.

Roundabouts

Yield to pedestrians and to vehicles already circulating, then enter the roundabout to the right. Signal before you exit and watch for cyclists.

Emergency vehicles and lane use

When an emergency vehicle approaches with lights and siren, pull to the right and stop until it passes. On multilane roads keep to the right except when passing so faster traffic can use the left lane.
