Safe Driving & Sharing the Road
Most crashes come from following too closely or failing to see others. Managing space and staying alert protects you and everyone around you.
Following distance
Keep at least a three-second gap behind the vehicle ahead and increase it in rain, snow, fog, or blowing dust. More space gives you time to react and stop safely.
Motorcycles, bicycles, and pedestrians
Motorcycles are entitled to a full lane and are easy to overlook, so give them room and check your blind spots. Watch for bicyclists and yield to pedestrians in crosswalks.
School buses and seat belts
Stop for a school bus showing flashing red lights and an extended stop arm, and stay stopped until it withdraws them. All occupants must be properly restrained, and younger children must use a child safety seat.
