Getting Licensed
To sell property and casualty insurance in New Mexico a producer obtains a resident producer license with the property and casualty lines of authority from the Office of Superintendent of Insurance. Appointments, Renewal, and Continuing Education
To represent a specific insurer, that company must appoint the producer and file the appointment with OSI; a producer may hold appointments with several insurers at once. For renewal, OSI requires 24 CE credit hours total — 21 general hours plus 3 ethics hours — completed before the license expires (verified at osi.state.nm.us). OSI recommends finishing at least 90 days before expiration, because late completion can trigger a penalty and a new background check.
