Word Formation
These items test whether you can build the correct part of speech from a base word. The grammar around the gap tells you which form is required.
Nouns, Adjectives, and Adverbs
After 'the' a noun is usually needed ('efficiency'). Before a noun, use an adjective ('practical suggestions'). To describe a verb, use an adverb ('respond promptly').
Verb Forms After 'to'
After 'plans to' or a similar structure, use the base verb ('expand'), not the noun 'expansion'. Recognising the slot before the gap keeps you from choosing the wrong form.
