Rules of the Road & Right of Way
Right-of-way rules keep Manitoba intersections orderly and predictable.
Stops and uncontrolled intersections
At a four-way stop the first vehicle to stop goes first, and ties are settled by yielding to the right. Where there are no signs or signals, yield to the vehicle approaching from your right.
Turning
When turning left on a green light, yield to oncoming traffic and to pedestrians. You may turn right on a red light after a full stop and yield, unless a sign prohibits it.
School buses
On an undivided road, traffic in both directions must stop for a school bus displaying flashing red lights and wait until they stop flashing. Passing a stopped school bus carries heavy penalties.
