Signs & Signals
Minnesota traffic signs use shape and color so you can read them quickly. Signals and pavement markings work with the signs to guide you through intersections and lane changes.
Shapes and colors
A red octagon means STOP and a triangle means YIELD. Yellow diamonds warn of curves, crossings, and other hazards. Red prohibits, orange marks work zones, green guides, and blue lists services.
Pavement markings
Yellow lines separate opposing traffic; white lines separate lanes going the same direction. A broken line allows lane changes or passing when safe, while a solid line discourages or prohibits crossing.
Traffic signals
Steady red means stop and stay stopped; steady yellow warns of a coming red; steady green means go when clear. Flashing red is a STOP sign, and flashing yellow means slow down and proceed with caution.
