Safety glazing and fire-rated openings

Building codes such as the IBC require safety glazing (tempered or laminated) in hazardous locations where human impact is likely, such as in doors, sidelites next to doors, and glazing near walking surfaces and wet areas. Tempered glass breaks into small pieces and laminated glass holds together, both reducing laceration injuries. Fire-rated door and window assemblies must also be labeled and installed to maintain the rated protection of a fire barrier.
