Gypsum board finishing
Gypsum board joints are taped and then covered with successive coats of joint compound, each sanded smooth, to produce a flat, uniform surface. Higher finish levels, needed where critical lighting will reveal imperfections, require more coats and careful sanding, followed by priming before the finish paint. Skipping the primer or sanding shows through the final coat, so sequence and surface preparation matter.
