Flashing and the building envelope
Flashing is installed at roof-to-wall junctions, penetrations, and transitions to direct water away and prevent leaks; these transitions are among the most failure-prone areas of the envelope, so correct flashing detailing is critical. Insulation controls heat flow (rated by R-value), while vapor retarders limit moisture migration into wall and roof assemblies. Coordinating these layers prevents condensation and water damage.
