Rules of the Road & Right of Way

Right-of-way rules state who must yield; they do not guarantee that another driver will yield to you.

Intersections

At a four-way stop, the first vehicle to arrive goes first, and when two arrive together the driver on the left yields to the driver on the right. Yield to traffic already circulating when entering a roundabout.

Turns

When turning left at a green light with no arrow, yield to oncoming vehicles and pedestrians before turning. Complete the turn only when there is a safe gap.

School buses and emergency vehicles

On a two-lane road, all traffic must stop for a school bus with flashing red lights loading or unloading children. Pull to the right and stop for approaching emergency vehicles using lights and siren.
