Speed & Conditions
Speed limits are maximums for good conditions; you must drive to the actual road, weather and traffic.
Speed limits
Unless a sign shows otherwise, the open-road limit is 100 km/h and the urban limit is 50 km/h. Some expressways are posted at 110 km/h, and lower limits often apply near schools.
Driving to the conditions
In rain, fog or on gravel, slow down and increase your following distance because grip and visibility are reduced. The safe speed can be well below the posted limit.
Stopping distance
Your total stopping distance is your reaction distance plus braking distance, and both grow as speed rises. Leaving space and slowing early give you room to stop safely.
