Rules of the Road & Right of Way

Right-of-way rules decide who goes first so traffic moves safely. In Oklahoma you yield rather than force your way, and you give extra room to stopped emergency vehicles and to pedestrians.

Intersections and stops

At a four-way stop the first to arrive goes first; if two arrive together, the driver on the left yields to the driver on the right. Yield to pedestrians in a crosswalk and stop if needed to let them cross.

Turns

When turning left across oncoming traffic, yield to oncoming vehicles and pedestrians and turn only when there is a safe gap.

Move Over and processions

Move over a lane, or slow down and pass with caution, for a stopped emergency or service vehicle with flashing lights. Yield to a funeral procession and do not cut through the line of vehicles.
