Signs & Signals

Oklahoma traffic signs use shape and color so you can read them quickly, even before the words are clear. Recognizing each one helps you react in time and answer these questions with confidence.

Shapes carry meaning

A red octagon means STOP and a downward triangle means YIELD. A five-sided sign warns of a school zone, and a yellow pennant on the left marks the start of a no-passing zone.

Traffic signals

A steady red means stop and stay stopped. A flashing red is the same as a STOP sign, while a flashing yellow means slow down and proceed with caution while watching for cross traffic.

Pavement markings

Yellow lines separate traffic moving in opposite directions, and white lines separate lanes going the same way or mark the road edge. A solid line should not be crossed to pass.
