Posted limits are set for ideal conditions. Oklahoma expects you to slow down when weather, traffic, or the road makes a lower speed the safe choice.
Posted maximums
Oklahoma posts up to 75 mph on many rural interstates, and some turnpikes may post higher, while city and school-zone limits are much lower. Always obey the posted signs.
Adjust to conditions
The first rain after dry weather lifts oil and dust into a slick film, so slow down and increase following distance. Reduce speed for rain, ice, fog, and heavy traffic.
Do not impede traffic
Driving much slower than the flow of traffic can be dangerous and unlawful. Keep to the right and let faster vehicles pass, and obey reduced school-zone limits during posted hours.
