Alcohol, Fitness & Licensing
Driving is a licensed responsibility, and alcohol or drugs make it dangerous and illegal.
Alcohol limits
The Anti-Drunk and Drugged Driving Act (RA 10586) is widely cited as setting a blood alcohol limit around 0.05% for private, non-professional drivers, with an effectively zero-tolerance standard for professional and for-hire drivers. The safest rule is never to drink and drive. Confirm the current figures officially.
Testing and penalties
Drivers who show signs of impairment can be asked to take a lawful breath or sobriety test, and refusing such a test is itself an offence. Penalties for drink or drug driving are severe.
Getting licensed
New drivers normally begin with a student driver's permit and practise with a licensed driver before qualifying for a non-professional licence. Always drive within the conditions of your licence.
