Sharing the Road Safely
Roads are shared with pedestrians, motorcycles, and cyclists who are far more exposed than car occupants.
Protecting yourself
Drivers and front-seat passengers must wear seat belts where fitted, and motorcycle riders and back riders must wear standard protective helmets. These simple habits save lives in a crash.
Pedestrians and vulnerable users
Give way to pedestrians at marked crossings and never overtake a vehicle stopped to let people cross. Give motorcycles and cyclists plenty of space, especially when passing.
Keeping a safe gap
Leave enough following distance to stop safely, and increase it in rain, at higher speed, or when visibility is poor. A larger gap gives you time to see and react.
