Speed & Road Conditions
The right speed is one you can control for the road, weather, and traffic around you, never just the posted number.
Limits are a maximum
A posted speed limit is the most you may drive in good conditions. Drive below it when rain, traffic, darkness, or road works make higher speeds unsafe. Exact limits vary by road, so obey posted signs.
Schools and crowded areas
Slow to a low, cautious speed near schools, markets, and crowded streets, where children and pedestrians may step out suddenly. Be ready to stop at any moment.
Weather and darkness
Wet roads reduce grip and lengthen stopping distances, so slow down and leave a bigger gap. At night or in poor visibility, use headlights and dip your high beam for oncoming traffic.
