The Scrum Team and Accountabilities
The Scrum Team is a small, cohesive unit with three accountabilities and no sub-teams or hierarchies. This chapter covers the Product Owner, Scrum Master and Developers, and how the team is self-managing and cross-functional.
Product Owner
The Product Owner is accountable for maximizing the value of the product and for effective Product Backlog management, including developing and communicating the Product Goal, and ordering backlog items so they are transparent and understood.
Scrum Master and Developers
The Scrum Master is a true leader accountable for the team's effectiveness and for establishing Scrum. The Developers are accountable for creating a usable Increment each Sprint, owning the Sprint Backlog, instilling quality via the Definition of Done, and adapting their plan daily.
One team, self-managing and cross-functional
A Scrum Team is typically 10 or fewer people with all the skills needed to create value each Sprint. It is self-managing, deciding internally who does what, when and how, and there are no titles, sub-teams or hierarchies within it.
