Arkansas Licensing Requirements and Education
Arkansas sets pre-license education, examination, affiliation, and post-license and continuing-education requirements for salespersons. This chapter summarizes the path to and maintenance of an Arkansas license.
Pre-License Education and Examination
An applicant for an Arkansas salesperson license must complete approved pre-license education and pass the licensing examination, which covers national real estate principles and Arkansas-specific law. Applicants must also meet character and eligibility requirements set by the Commission. Passing the exam is a prerequisite, but the license must be placed with a principal broker to become active.
Affiliation With a Principal Broker
A newly licensed Arkansas salesperson may practice only when the license is placed with and supervised by a principal broker. The principal broker accepts responsibility for the salesperson's licensed activity and for the firm's trust account. A salesperson who leaves a firm generally may not conduct licensed activity until the license is transferred to another principal broker.
Post-License and Continuing Education
Arkansas requires newly licensed salespersons to complete additional post-license education within their first licensing period, and all licensees must complete continuing education to renew. Continuing education keeps licensees current with law and practice. Failing to complete required education or practicing on an expired license can subject a licensee to discipline.
