Impaired Driving & Saskatchewan Graduated Licensing

SGI sets zero-alcohol rules for new drivers and strict penalties for impairment.

Zero alcohol for new drivers

Drivers in the Learner and Novice GDL stages must have zero alcohol and zero drugs in their system. Any amount can end the trip and set back progress through the program.

Limits and penalties

For experienced drivers, a reading at or above 0.04 can bring an immediate roadside suspension and vehicle seizure, and 0.08 or more is a criminal offence. Drug-impaired driving carries the same serious consequences.

Learner supervision and your record

A Class 7 Learner must be accompanied by a qualified experienced supervising driver and keep a zero blood alcohol level. SGI's Safe Driver Recognition and demerit-point programs track your record and affect penalties and insurance.
