Speed & Road Conditions
Drive to the posted limit and to the road, weather and traffic around you.
Speed limits
Unless a sign says otherwise, the default limit in a city or town is 50 km/h. Adjust your speed downward whenever visibility or traction is poor, even below the posted limit.
Winter and slippery roads
Snow and ice reduce traction, so slow down and increase your following distance. If you begin to skid, ease off the accelerator and steer smoothly toward where you want to go.
Fog and low visibility
Use low-beam headlights in fog, because high beams reflect off the water droplets and make it harder to see. Slow down and be ready to stop within the distance you can see clearly.
