Solve Linear Equations Confidently
Isolate the variable by undoing operations in reverse order, and distribute carefully when parentheses appear. Substituting a known value, such as x = 3, into a two-variable equation reduces it to one unknown. Always check your solution in the original equation.
Systems of Equations
For two equations, use elimination by adding or subtracting when a variable cancels, or substitution when one variable is already isolated. Adding x + y = 10 and x - y = 4 cancels y and gives x directly. Choose the method that requires the least algebra for the given system.
