HR Knowledge: Organization and Workplace

The Organization and Workplace domains address how work is structured and how a healthy, safe, and inclusive environment is maintained. Topics include organizational design, culture, diversity and inclusion, employee relations, and risk management.

Organizational structure and culture

Structure defines how work, authority, and reporting relationships are arranged, and redesigns such as moving to cross-functional teams change how the organization operates. Culture is sustained most powerfully when leaders consistently model the stated values.

Diversity, equity, and inclusion

DEI is most effective when embedded across recruiting, development, and everyday practices rather than treated as a quota or one-time event. Inclusive practices broaden talent and strengthen engagement.

Employee relations and risk

HR manages risk by investigating concerns such as harassment promptly, fairly, and with documentation, and by reducing exposures like single points of failure through cross-training. Sound processes protect both employees and the organization.
