Impaired driving is a serious crime in Utah, which has the lowest adult alcohol limit in the nation. New teen drivers earn full privileges in stages, and knowing these limits protects your license and everyone on the road.
Adult and under-21 limits
A driver 21 or older is legally impaired at 0.05 percent BAC, the strictest adult limit in the country. Under Utah's Not-a-Drop law, drivers under 21 may not have any measurable alcohol in their system.
Intermediate license
For the first months, drivers under 18 face limits on nighttime driving and on carrying passengers under 21, with exceptions for immediate family. These restrictions ease as the driver gains experience.
Implied consent
By driving in Utah you agree to chemical testing if lawfully arrested for DUI. Refusing a breath or blood test leads to a license suspension separate from any DUI penalty.
