Rules of the Road & Right of Way
Right-of-way rules decide who goes first so intersections stay orderly. In Utah you yield, keep right, and make room for emergency and stopped roadside vehicles.
Intersections
At a four-way stop the first to arrive goes first; if two arrive together, the driver on the left yields to the driver on the right. When turning left on a green light, yield to oncoming traffic and pedestrians before you turn.
Roundabouts
Enter a roundabout to the right and yield to pedestrians and to vehicles already circulating. Signal before you exit and watch for cyclists.
Emergency vehicles and the Move Over law
When an emergency vehicle approaches with lights and siren, pull to the right and stop until it passes. Utah's Move Over law also requires you to change lanes away from a stopped emergency, tow, or maintenance vehicle showing flashing lights, or to slow down if you cannot move over.
