Most crashes trace back to following too closely or failing to see others. Managing space and staying alert protects you and everyone around you.
Following distance
Keep at least a three-second gap behind the vehicle ahead and increase it in rain, snow, or fog. More space gives you time to see, react, and stop.
Motorcycles, bicycles, and pedestrians
Motorcycles are entitled to a full lane and are easy to overlook, so give them room and check your blind spots. Watch for bicyclists and yield to pedestrians in crosswalks.
School buses and seat belts
Stop for a school bus showing flashing red lights and a stop arm, and stay stopped until it withdraws them. Utah requires all drivers and passengers to be properly restrained, with child safety seats for young children.
