At C2, errors are the kind that slip past even proficient users: subtle concord, register, idiom breakdown, and misapplied 'rules'. This chapter trains a native-like eye.
Subtle Concord and Structure
Watch for notional agreement ('The committee is/are divided'), correct use of the subjunctive, and dangling or misrelated participles that survive because the sentence still 'sounds' fine.
Idiom Integrity and Register
Advanced errors distort a fixed idiom ('a damp squid' for 'a damp squib'), overcorrect a correct form, or mix registers within a sentence. The correct answer preserves the idiom and a consistent tone.
